Site Summary
Summarize any web page by pasting its URL — no extension required.
How to Use
- Go to 5minread.tech
- On the dashboard, open the Summary page — the Website tab is selected by default
- Paste the URL of the article or page you want to summarize
- Click "Summarize"
- The app fetches the page content and generates an AI summary
How It Works
When you submit a URL, 5minread:
- Fetches the page content (tries CORS first, then falls back to server-side extraction)
- Extracts the main article text, removing navigation, ads, and boilerplate
- Summarizes the cleaned content using your selected AI model and preset
Summary Options
Same options as text summaries:
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Length | Short, Medium, Full, or Maximum |
| Preset | Summarization style (Standard, Academic, ELI5, etc.) |
| AI Model | Model to use (plan-dependent) |
| Custom instructions | Additional focus for the summary (PRO/MAX) |
Supported Sites
Works with most public web pages:
- News articles and blog posts
- Documentation and knowledge bases
- Wikipedia and encyclopedia pages
- Research paper abstracts
- Any publicly accessible HTML page
Limitations
- Pages behind login walls or paywalls may not be accessible
- JavaScript-rendered content (SPAs) may not extract fully
- Very large pages are truncated to fit token limits
Tips
- Use the extension for pages that require authentication — it can read the page you're already viewing
- Combine URL summarization with custom instructions to focus on specific sections
- Use Chat after summarizing to ask follow-up questions about the content
See Limits for details on your plan's token allowance.
