In the Extension

  1. Open the summary
  2. Click the Export button
  3. Select the format
  4. File downloads automatically

In the Web App

  1. Go to History
  2. Select one or more summaries
  3. Click Export in the action bar
  4. Choose format (multiple summaries are packed into a zip file)

Export Format Details

Text (.txt)

  • Plain text, no formatting
  • Works everywhere — email, terminal, any editor
  • Smallest file size

Markdown (.md)

  • Includes title, source URL, and date
  • Preserves headers and bullet structure
  • Compatible with Notion, Obsidian, Logseq, GitHub, and other note-taking apps

PDF

  • Professional layout with source link
  • Ready for printing or sharing
  • Best for sending to others

Word (.docx)

  • Fully editable in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice
  • Preserves bold, italic, and heading styles
  • Ideal for reports and further editing

Audio (.mp3)

PRO / MAX Feature

MP3 audio export is available on Pro and Max plans.

How to Copy

In the extension: click the Copy button → select format from the dropdown.

In the web app: open the summary → click the Copy icon in the toolbar → choose format.

How to Share

In the extension: click the Share button → pick a platform.

In the web app: open the summary → click the Share icon in the toolbar → choose a platform.

Sharing opens the platform's native share dialog or compose window. 5minread does not post on your behalf.

  • Use Markdown for note-taking apps (Obsidian, Notion, Logseq)
  • Use Copy → Rich Text to paste formatted content directly into Gmail or Google Docs
  • Use PDF for clean printable versions
  • Use Audio for hands-free review on the go
