Learn how to create your first page summary.

Summarize a Web Page​

Using the Extension​

  1. Navigate to any article or webpage
  2. Click the 5minread extension icon
  3. Click "Summarize Page"
  4. Wait for the AI to process the content
  5. Read your summary in the popup or side panel

Using the Web App​

  1. Go to 5minread.tech
  2. On the dashboard, open the Summary page and select the Text tab
  3. Type or paste the text you want to summarize
  4. Click "Summarize"
  5. View and interact with your summary

Summary Options​

Before summarizing, you can customize:

  • Summary length: Short (~250 words), Medium (~350), Full (~450), or Maximum (no limit)
  • Preset: Standard, Academic, Key Takeaways, and 18 more
  • Output location: Popup or Page Panel

Working with Your Summary​

After generation, you can:

  • Copy the summary to clipboard
  • Export to Markdown, PDF, Word, or MP3
  • Listen using text-to-speech
  • Chat to ask follow-up questions
  • Save with tags for later reference

Tips​

  • Summaries are cached — reopening the same page won't use additional tokens
  • Use custom instructions to focus on specific aspects
  • Enable thesis highlighting to see key points emphasized
  • The AI model badge in the header shows which model generated the summary
