Research Projects
Combine multiple summaries into comprehensive research projects with AI-powered synthesis, analysis, and chat.
Overview
Research Projects allows you to:
- Collect summaries from your history into themed projects
- Generate AI synthesis that combines insights from all sources
- Create article outlines with section references
- Extract key findings with confidence scores
- Detect contradictions between sources
- Chat with AI about your research
- Export to Markdown, DOCX, or PDF
Creating a Project
- Navigate to Research in the sidebar
- Click "Create Project"
- Enter a project name (e.g., "AI in Education Research")
- Add a goal describing what you want to create
- Click Create
Adding Sources
Sources are summaries from your history that you want to include in the research project.
Adding Sources
- Open your research project
- Click "Add Sources"
- Search and select summaries from your history
- Click "Add Selected"
Source Notes
Add personal notes to each source to track its relevance:
- Click the menu icon on a source
- Select "Add Note"
- Enter your note about this source
- Click Save
Notes appear below each source and are included in exports.
AI Features
Synthesis Tab
Generate a comprehensive review combining all your sources.
- Go to the Synthesis tab
- Click "Generate Synthesis"
- Watch the AI generate content in real-time (streaming)
- Use Cancel to stop generation if needed
- Click "Regenerate" to create a new synthesis
The synthesis includes:
- Overview of the topic
- Key themes across sources
- Synthesis of main arguments
- Conclusions and implications
Outline Tab
Generate a structured article outline based on your sources.
- Go to the Outline tab
- Click "Generate Outline"
- Review the suggested structure:
- Main sections and subsections
- Source references for each section
- Identified research gaps
Findings Tab
Extract key findings with confidence assessment.
- Go to the Findings tab
- Click "Extract Findings"
- Review each finding:
- High confidence: Well-supported by multiple sources
- Medium confidence: Some support, may need verification
- Low confidence: Limited evidence, use with caution
Each finding shows:
- Clear statement
- Supporting sources
- Confidence reasoning
- Any caveats
Analysis Tab
Detect contradictions and consensus between sources.
- Go to the Analysis tab
- Click "Analyze Sources"
- Review results:
- Contradictions: Where sources disagree
- Consensus: Where sources agree
Contradictions include:
- Topic of disagreement
- Each source's position
- Analysis of why they differ
- Suggested resolution
Chat Tab
Ask questions about your research project. See also Chat with AI for general chat features.
- Go to the Chat tab
- Type your question (e.g., "What do sources say about X?")
- Press Enter or click Send
- AI responds with citations to your sources
Example questions:
- "Summarize the main points about [topic]"
- "What are the different perspectives on [issue]?"
- "Which sources support [claim]?"
- "What gaps exist in my research?"
Recommendations
The system suggests relevant summaries from your history:
- Scroll to "Suggested Sources" section
- Review recommendations with match scores
- Click Add to include in your project
Recommendations are based on:
- Topic similarity
- Keyword matching
- Relevance to project goal
Exporting
Export your research in multiple formats:

How to Export
- Click the Export dropdown
- Select your format
- File downloads automatically
Export Contents
Exports include:
- Project title and goal
- Full synthesis (if generated)
- Article outline (if generated)
- Key findings with confidence levels
- Contradictions analysis
- List of all sources with notes

- Create projects by theme or question
- Name projects descriptively

Sources Not Appearing
- Check that summaries exist in your history
- Verify you haven't reached the source limit
- Refresh the page and try again
Export Problems
- Ensure synthesis is generated before exporting
- Check your internet connection
