Overview

Research Projects allows you to:

  • Collect summaries from your history into themed projects
  • Generate AI synthesis that combines insights from all sources
  • Create article outlines with section references
  • Extract key findings with confidence scores
  • Detect contradictions between sources
  • Chat with AI about your research
  • Export to Markdown, DOCX, or PDF

Creating a Project

  1. Navigate to Research in the sidebar
  2. Click "Create Project"
  3. Enter a project name (e.g., "AI in Education Research")
  4. Add a goal describing what you want to create
  5. Click Create

Adding Sources

Sources are summaries from your history that you want to include in the research project.

Adding Sources

  1. Open your research project
  2. Click "Add Sources"
  3. Search and select summaries from your history

Notes appear below each source and are included in exports.

AI Features

Synthesis Tab

Generate a comprehensive review combining all your sources.

  1. Go to the Synthesis tab
  2. Click "Generate Synthesis"
  3. Watch the AI generate content in real-time (streaming)
  4. Use Cancel to stop generation if needed
  5. Click "Regenerate" to create a new synthesis

The synthesis includes:

  • Overview of the topic
  • Key themes across sources
  • Synthesis of main arguments
  • Conclusions and implications

Outline Tab

Generate a structured article outline based on your sources.

  1. Go to the Outline tab
  2. Click "Generate Outline"
  3. Review the suggested structure:
    • Main sections and subsections
    • Source references for each section
    • Identified research gaps

Findings Tab

Extract key findings with confidence assessment.

;
  1. Go to the Findings tab
  2. Click "Extract Findings"
  3. Review each finding:
    • High confidence: Well-supported by multiple sources
    • Medium confidence: Some support, may need verification
    • Low confidence: Limited evidence, use with caution

Each finding shows:

  • Clear statement
  • Supporting sources
  • Confidence reasoning
  • Any caveats

Analysis Tab

Detect contradictions and consensus between sources.

  1. Go to the Analysis tab
  2. Click "Analyze Sources"
  3. Review results:
    • Contradictions: Where sources disagree
    • Consensus: Where sources agree

Contradictions include:

  • Topic of disagreement
  • Each source's position
  • Analysis of why they differ
  • Suggested resolution

Chat Tab

Ask questions about your research project. See also Chat with AI for general chat features.

  1. Go to the Chat tab
  2. Type your question (e.g., "What do sources say about X?")
  3. Press Enter or click Send
  4. AI responds with citations to your sources

Example questions:

  • "Summarize the main points about [topic]"
  • "What are the different perspectives on [issue]?"
  • "Which sources support [claim]?"
  • "What gaps exist in my research?"

Recommendations

The system suggests relevant summaries from your history:

  1. Scroll to "Suggested Sources" section
  2. Review recommendations with match scores
  3. Click Add to include in your project

Recommendations are based on:

  • Topic similarity
  • Keyword matching
  • Relevance to project goal

Tips

  • Start with a clear goal: A specific goal helps AI generate better synthesis
  • Add diverse sources: Include different perspectives for richer analysis
  • Use notes: Track why each source matters to your research
  • Check contradictions: Understanding disagreements strengthens your research
  • Iterate: Regenerate synthesis after adding new sources
  • Export regularly: Keep backups of important research

Best Practices

Organizing Research

  1. Create projects by theme or question
  2. Name projects descriptively
  3. Set clear goals for each project
  4. Add notes to sources explaining their relevance

Getting Quality Synthesis

  1. Add at least 3-5 diverse sources
  2. Ensure sources cover different aspects of the topic
  3. Include sources with different viewpoints
  4. Add notes to guide the AI on important points

Using Analysis Features

  1. Start with Findings to get key takeaways
  2. Check Contradictions for balanced understanding
  3. Use Outline to structure your thinking
  4. Chat to explore specific questions

Troubleshooting

Synthesis Quality Issues

  • Add more sources for better coverage
  • Make sure sources are relevant to your goal
  • Try regenerating with different sources
  • Use notes to highlight important aspects

Sources Not Appearing

  • Check that summaries exist in your history
  • Verify you haven't reached the source limit
  • Refresh the page and try again

Export Problems

  • Ensure synthesis is generated before exporting
  • Check your internet connection
  • Try a different export format
